Five Fun Salvage Gifts You Can Make This Weekend

The staff at Earthwise is scrambling to finish (or start) gifts for the quickly approaching holiday season.  When working with one of  a kind  salvaged materials , it is hard not to create gifts for every person we know! Here is the Earthwise gift guide for homemade salvage gifts.  Hope you have as much fun making them as the recipient enjoys receiving them.

Found Object Bottle Stopper

Use that fun door knob, pool ball, toy dinosaur, you name it, to create the perfect bottle stopper for any wine drinker.  For your shopping ease, Earthwise sells everything you need (including directions) in a handy kit.  Or find great directions here.

With Urban Gardening on the rise, treat the gardener in your life to  a one of a kind cold frame.  These upcycled window cold frames pull double duty by adding salvage flair to the garden as well as keeping seedlings safe.  Choose a unique window and  go to This Old house for directions.

Upcycled Tile Coasters

How-To-Make-Coasters-Tutorial

Save coffee tables from water rings with these custom coasters.  These great gifts can be as simple as gluing felt to the bottom of colored/patterned tile.  Add pictures , magazines art, maps etc to plain tiles to create mini works of art.  Find ideas and how to’s at Creme de la Craft.

Light Fixture Terrariums

An upcycled light fixture terrarium with brighten the winter days ahead.  This great project uses smaller geometric light fixtures and replaces the electrical components with dirt and succulents to add a mod feel to a desk or room.  Shade of Tangerine has a great tutorial on how to make this fun gift.

We are always looking for upcycyled and salvage related projects, so if you have a great project idea, let us know. And as always, don’t forget to share pictures of your projects made with Earthwise materials to receive a 15% off coupon for your next purchase. Happy Holidays and Happy Crafting.

Ask-A-Pro Sessions – coming SOON to an #EWSalvage near YOU!

NEW this week: Ask-A-Pro Series Tickets available starting 5/8/15!

Have you heard of our “Ask-a-Pro” series coming up this July? This year on top of our regular #YEW workshops and events, we are excited to offer a brand new Q&A discussion with trade industry professionals throughout the entire month of July – #SALVAGEDESIGN Month! While we know it seems a long time away, we are excited to announce that punch cards are available as of this week at either location – read on for all the details…

How will this work? For most of the month, a salvage “pro” be coming in for a few hours at the location of their choice to answer questions and/or provide a demonstration in-store about using salvaged materials while sharing their general perspective on salvage and reuse. These sessions are only open to pass-holders (passes cost a suggested donation fee of $10+) and all proceeds collected from the event will go directly to our non-profit partners – Historic Seattle & Historic Tacoma.

Who are these Pros anywho? If you are an #EWSalvage Calendar holder, you’ll see that we’ve already got designers, contractors, preservationists, and many more skilled individuals on the calendar. Special guests currently include: Gabe Behrend of Dolan Built Construction, Kinley Deller of King County DNRP/SWD, Connie Kay Interior Design, Jak Moroshan of Modco Design, Rosichelli Design, Pete Tabor of Spacemen LLC, Harmony Weihs of DesignHarmony, just to name a few!

More information will come as we get closer, but suffice it to say it’s good to get in NOW! Sign-up below to receive updates specifically about the Ask-A-Pro Series.

*Are you interested in being one our featured salvage pros? We would love to have you join the schedule – please email marketing ‘at’ ewsalvage.com for more information, share your ideas for a session or to volunteer to be a pro!*
