This one-of-a-kind doghouse has quite a story! It comes from the historic home of Rolland Denny and Alice Kellogg. Rolland was the youngest child of the Denny family, who were some of Seattle's earliest White settlers as they arrived on Alki Beach in 1851. You can read more about the history of the Denny family on our blog. Flash forward over 50 years later, Rolland and Alice had their dream home, the Lochkelden estate, built in 1907 above the shores of Lake Washington in what would become the Windermere neighborhood. It was a massive Spanish Revival-style mansion that featured a grand entrance facing the lake. Directly to the right of the stairs that lead to that grand entrance, was this delightfully ornate, regal, and massive doghouse. It is made of poured cement and river rock with faux roof ridge tiles that were made to mimic the estate's rooftop.
When Earthwise was contracted to do the salvage of Lochkelden, our crew knew we needed to save that doghouse. How could we not try to salvage something so unique with such history? It took some doing, but we were able to extract it and get it to our Kenmore store where it is available to anyone interested in owning an amazing chunk of Seattle's history that just happens to also be perhaps the coolest doghouse ever built in the whole PNW.
It's in overall good condition and we estimate it weighs upwards of 3,000 pounds, so please chat with our staff for more details and logistics if you are interested in purchasing.
