Meiji Era Storage Tub "Kioke" 25.5 x 26

Here we have a traditional Meiji era storage tub or "Kioke" in Japanese. This tub would have been for storing dry food/grain or pickling and fermenting miso. Traditionally made out out of Cypress or "Sawara" and Cedar. When filled with water and heated the wood would expand and fill any gaps in the barrel.

Currently there is a crack in one plank so it cant hold liquids. That being said it would make a great talking piece in anyone's home.
